Splinting Material

Description of Thermoplastic Properties Available

There are 3 versions of CLEAR VISION REVEAL
...each with a
different degree of moldability:

CLEAR VISION REVEAL LS - Limited Stretch - provides Less Stretch (LS) for maximum control with a minimum degree of stretch and drape.  LS responds well to aggressive handling when splinting difficult or uncooperative patients. It is the material of choice for spasticity splints, large upper and lower extremity splints, back supports and serial splints that require frequent modifications.   If you would like to order sheets as Less Stretch, please ad the suffix LS to the appropriate part number.

CLEAR VISION REVEAL MS - Moderate Stretch - the traditional or Moderate Stretch version provides a balance of controlled stretch and moldability.  This version resists unwanted stretch yet conforms well for making wrist, hand, finger and thumb splints, as well as lower extremity splints. MS contours easily and provides good detail with moderate to aggressive handling. It is an excellent choice for upper and lower extremity static, static-progressive and dynamic splints.  Sheets are shipped Moderate Stretch unless specified otherwise. This very "forgiving" material is the perfect choice for the frequent and occasional splint maker.

CLEAR VISION REVEAL XS - Extra Stretch - provides extra stretch and exceptional moldability for duplicating intricate details of soft tissue.  This material drapes under its own weight and requires minimal handling.  It is well-suited for splinting patients with inflamed joints or sensitivity who require a gentle touch when splinting, and for contouring intricate hand splints. XS is recommended for the more experienced splint maker

Adherent "Sticky"(uncoated original version)

(Same product as coated, but uncoated to take advantage of material
adhesive physical properties when warm.)

“Tips for Using”

bulletCut pattern while warm but soft but still opaque ( limits stretch).
bulletHeat until clear for molding on hand or body.
bulletPlace on Teflon non stick surface (supplied with material) if lay down while hot.
bulletAvoid folding material on itself while hot unless you intend for it to stick to itself.
bulletReturn to hot water and lightly pull apart if inadvertently folded on itself.
bulletDip your fingers and scissors in cool (room temperature) water to prevent sticking.
bulletTake advantage of elastic properties to return splint to original shape in hot water.
bulletLeave splint on until opaque and cool enough to be removed without losing shape.
bulletFurther cooling for addition of straps, etc. an be speeded by dipping in cool water.
bulletBut do not dip circumferential splints in cool water to speed cooling.

Non Adherent  (coated)

(Same product but coated to make the product not adhesive when warm.)

“Tips for Using”

bulletScratch to break coating where adherence is desired such as for outriggers, and additions.
bulletScratch and heat both surfaces for bonding.
bulletFor bonding without losing splint shape heat splint where desired only until tacky.
bulletGreat for attaching outrigger or molded part for perfect fit. Once cool, mark, remove once to heat contact surfaces, and replace for permanent bond.
bulletWire outrigger or thermoplastic tubes work well for attachments, but do not heat metal parts.
